Assignment brief
You will have a good deal of freedom within this assignment to select your own subject matter and to develop a thematic approach to it. However bear in mind the target audience and the relation of text and image. Within the timescale available you are expected to produce a body of work which demonstrates an individual approach to the subject matter and your understanding of the genre. Select a theme that you have a special interest in and devise a brief that will enable you to carry out a prolonged piece of work which will be documentary in nature and which will examine the subject in detail. You should create a representation of the people involved in the theme that you have chosen and also of the environment in which they operate. The approach should be innovative and thought provoking and be underpinned by research to develop an individual approach to the subject. The time available to you should ensure that you should complete a substantial body of work for this brief and presentation should be in the form of a magazine story, book format or exhibition. Short projects will be undertaken to reinforce the themes and techniques associated with this brief. Stage 1Attend assignment briefing and engage in discussion. Stage 2Research and devise appropriate ideas for your project. Submit a statement of intent for discussion with your tutor. Stage 3Research in detail aspects of your subject matter, plan shooting schedules and seek all appropriate access permission and releases if necessary. Observe all Health and Safety requirements of any host organisation. Stage 4Document all aspects of research and planning Stage 5Select equipment/materials as appropriate. Any format will be acceptable including digital. Stage 6Consider the use of text/narrative within your approach to the subject matter. Stage 7Meet deadlines Stage 8Present finished work within a suitable context e.g. Magazine or book format. Proposal
I plan on documenting 2 very different subjects, the soon to be destroyed Driffield RAF barracks and the beach of Hornsea. I am going to approach each of these subjects very differently the first will study the first will be taking a closer look at the Dilapidated buildings in Driffield using normal camera techniques and shutter speeds i will highlight areas that are not often seen. I will approach the beach images very differently though i have decided to try and create some fragile and delicate looking images by using slow shutter speeds to create a smoother looking images.
